Prepare for Calamity

knight (3)Recent headlines have raised concern for the value of our money, internet neutrality, gun control, homeland security, immigration reform, terrorist cells working within our borders, and human trafficking. I even saw one where muslim prayers were allowed while Christian prayers were not in some of our public schools. Any one of these would be cause for concern but all together it’s almost mind blowing. In fact, the constant flow of fearful information is mind numbing no matter which side of the fence you stand on. We must be careful not to ignore it simply because it seems to enormous or complicated to overcome.

So the question still lingers what can be done to prepare in what promises to be a very dark hour. To answer this question many have published articles about living off the grid, stockpiling gold, storing water and food reserves, and being ready with an emergency preparedness plan. All of these are good. But, in what appears to be a global event, where do we think we can go and be safe for any length of time. Survival of the fittest may truly be the rule of the day.

Fitness comes from advanced training and will require strengthening of the spirit which begins with prayer. We as Christians are called by God to pray. This type of prayer will not be a brief casual act but a submission of our will where time is sacrificed for the greater good. Prayer prepares the mind for battle. If we can not clear our minds to see the objective, we will be fighting the wrong thing in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Once our mind is ready, we must suit up. We would never wear flip flops to fight a war. So, why do we leave ourselves vulnerable when God has clearly warned us in advance that we are, in fact, at war. (Ephesians 6:12)

To stand in the heat of the battle will take security in knowing the truth, dedication to moral rightness and minutemen for the gospel. All the while understanding God alone is our protection as we, in faith, surge forward in battle. Most importantly we must not neglect the only weapon available to us, the Bible. Everything else hinges on our knowledge this weapon affords. We need to use it wisely and trust what it says. To trust the Bible is to trust God and to use it wisely we will have to study its content.  Any excuse for lack of study in God’s Word will be of little comfort when the day of intense battle arrives. (Ephesians 6:13-18)

With all these things in place we can confidently weather whatever the future holds, trusting God’s promise to never leave us nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5-6)
