Morning Moment.

SAM_2904In the early morning air, when the dew is still fresh from the fog, I sense the silence of the Earth.

Each tree is a dark silhouette among a misty haze. In the spring and summer I would be able to hear the crickets keep time with their singing.  Even in the fall I could make out a drip of water as it escapes a leaf here or there. But, winter has settled on the land and the crisp air is a testament to it.

The fog hovers over the river and expands its cloak like the wings of a mother hen protecting her young. It spreads across the land as far as it can reach until the moistness envelopes my surroundings in their entirety.

As I breathe I can feel the dampness enter my nostrils and feel the cool wetness on my face. It is so peaceful, I can’t help but thank God for the serenity I encounter even if for a fleeting moment.

My soul is somehow nourished and my senses more alert as I abandon my “to do” list and put on hold everything that seems pressing. As the pressures of the world pile up outside my door trying to force their way in, I bow my head to the One who can carry me beyond my circumstances.

My human nature says,”You don’t have time for this.” But, in a world full of chaos God still offers peace. This morning I rose to find it lingering with the fog.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27
