Are you a leaner?

SAM_1310Does anyone remember the old TV commercial that shows people walking around at a slant. They were lacking in vital nutrients the ad proclaims and of course the remedy is a dose of what the vegetable drink company is selling. They do have a point. When we are feeling sub par it is hard to stand tall and be strong.

Maybe you can relate. Maybe you feel a little off kilter, spiritually? We think we are doing okay only to discover our faith is slightly on the “lean” side, literally. And we wonder why. It is because our foundation has shifted or become unstable in some way. The support we once had is gone because we have neglected our relationship with God.

Maybe a leaning fence post isn’t such a big deal. Although people with OCD would beg to differ. Neglecting the things that nurture our fellowship with the Almighty God of the Universe can be catastrophic for the believer. Our relationship with Him drives everything else in our lives, or it should. Failing to deliberately seek God on a daily basis can leave us weak and vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks. More than water could end up filling the space around us. Certainty would be replaced with doubt. Love would be replaced with hate and faith would begin to weather.

We need to stand straight in a world full of “leaners”. Standing straight will require reinforcing our foundation with a daily dose of Bible, a humble attitude on bended knee, and determination to stand on faith no matter the opposition.

“Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:36
